One of the most common misconceptions I still run into is that remote tuning must be complicated.
From the customer side, it really isn’t.
The whole point of my process is to keep the complicated part on my end.
Step 1: Tell Me About Your Truck
When you order, I need the basic information about the vehicle. I have a simple online form to capture this.
- Fuel you plan to run
- Current modifications
- Tire size
- Any planned modifications
- Anything unusual about how the truck is used
From there, I build the appropriate starting calibration for that specific combination.
Step 2: Flash the Calibration
The COBB Accessport handles the actual programming of the vehicle.
You do not need to understand calibration tables, ECU logic, boost control, ignition timing, or any of the other things happening behind the scenes.
Follow the supplied instructions, flash the calibration, and drive the truck.
Step 3: Record Datalogs
For custom tuning, I provide very specific instructions for the data I need.
The Accessport records the information directly from the vehicle while you make the requested pull or drive.
That data gives me a detailed look at what the engine is actually doing—boost, fueling, ignition timing, knock response, temperatures, airflow, torque control, and many other parameters.
This is the part that makes remote tuning work so well.
I don't have to guess how your truck is responding to the calibration. I can see it.
Step 4: I Review the Data
This is where most of the actual tuning work happens.
I review the logs, compare commanded values against what the vehicle actually did, and make changes where necessary.
Sometimes the first calibration is already very close. Other trucks need additional refinement because of fuel quality, modifications, elevation, weather, or simply differences from vehicle to vehicle.
If changes are needed, I send another calibration and we repeat the process.
Step 5: Enjoy the Truck
Once the data looks the way it should, you're done.
There is no need to drive across the country, find a local tuner familiar with the platform, or spend a day sitting at a dyno shop.
Most customers perform the entire process from home while communicating directly with the person actually calibrating their vehicle.
And that last part is important to me.
The Process Keeps Expanding
This same basic process is what I have been using with the 4th Gen Tacoma, 6th Gen 4Runner, and Land Cruiser 250, and it is now available for the 2022+ Tundra as well.
I've been actively developing the Tundra calibrations on my own development truck, both on the road and on the dyno, while working through the engine and transmission strategies that make that platform unique.
The vehicle may change, but the philosophy does not:
Build a solid starting calibration, collect real data from the actual vehicle, review it carefully, and refine from there.
Remote tuning sounds complicated until you actually do it.
For the customer, most of it boils down to:
Flash. Log. Send. Repeat if needed. Enjoy.
I take care of the complicated part.
